Ta Ke Ti Na

Austrian composer and percussionist Reinhard Flatischler developed the Ta Ke Ti Na process, a completely new way of learning and understanding music, in 1970. The principles and working methods of the Ta Ke Ti Na process were developed for more than ten years out of research groups with participants from all backgrounds. Because of its broad approach, Ta Ke Ti Na is used in a variety of different fields including music schools and conservatories, prisons, theater schools and in the treatment of intense pain.
Learning rhythm and music with the Ta Ke Ti Na process always means learning for life, too. Everything that hinders us  living a fulfilled life is reflected in the circle as rhythmic disability and can be transformed by the rhythmic evolution that unfolds in the Ta Ke Ti Na process.
Emotion and rational thought, intuitive feeling and cognitive action, passivity and activity, outer movements and inner silence begin to integrate. The mind becomes silent and the core being is allowed to surface.
Ta Ke Ti Na works equally for professional drummers or for total beginners. It is a radically new vision of rhythm, that infuses existing knowledge with new approaches to create an inexhaustible source for learning drums or other instruments, arranging and composing music. Through Ta Ke Ti Na, the student gains direct access to the rhythmic worlds of Africa, Asia, and Latin America. This in turn leads to increased competence and creativity in the related rhythms of classical music, jazz, and hip-hop.

A New Paradigm for Learning through Rhythm

takelogo.jpg (15305 bytes)Ta Ke Ti Na, the musical group process, uses stepping, clapping and the rhythmic voice as a means of entering into the world of rhythm. Rhythm “mantras” combined with precise stepping patterns open the door to inherent rhythmic knowledge.
Using the body as the main instrument, Ta Ke Ti Na develops essential and fundamental musical skills in a joyful and a relaxed way.
The leader of the Ta Ke Ti Na process guides the group of participants as an open system that fluctuates between falling out of rhythm and coming back into
rhythm–learning at the edge of chaos and order.
The group and a drummer hold the basic rhythm allowing each individual the freedom to learn in his/her own pace. By knowing that one can fall out and come back to the basic rhythm at any time, each person is able to stay connected to the ongoing process in his/her own way. This can open trust towards rhythm and life along with developing a natural rhythmic orientation and connection to the silent information underlying every kind of musical creation.
Participants learn to create on several different rhythmic levels at the same time, for example: independent left-right/ hand-feet movements. As a result, an awareness is increased that is able to perceive music and daily life from a different perspective. Active and passive, rational and emotional, melodic and rhythmic layers are experienced simultaneously.
This is the power of “simultaneity.” Our abundance of different rhythm concepts, are rooted in Rhythm Archetypes or “primal rhythmic images” anchored in the consciousness of all human beings. The Ta Ke Ti Na process leads participants to the rediscovery of these primal rhythmic entities. The leader of the process provides a field in which the participant is able to learn from his/her own wisdom.
